Thinking about wood selection, generally I recommend the people not build out of any species that weighs more than 27 pounds per cubic foot to keep the finished paddle weight below 2 lbs. 4 oz. I finally found a plastic foot brace solution for Greenland kayaks that I don’t hate. The technical problem is that in such limited foot space you generally either have space for foot braces or your feet but not both.
